Why is my CV never considered for the role?

I’m often asked, “Why is my CV never considered for the role” …

Today I thought I should shed some light on what happens from the recruiter’s (my) perspective.

First, I ask you… Have you reviewed your CV?
Does it really highlight your skills and the competencies required for the role that you’re applying for?
Have you looked at the job description?
Do you know what the role is and whether it’s the right fit for you?
Not only that, have you considered what it is that you’re looking for in the next steps in your career journey…

No?? So here is what I would recommend …

Review your existing CV.
Are you honestly happy with what you currently have? Does it really show the recruiter who you are and what you’re passionate about? Does your CV highlight your aspirations?

I would then recommend looking at the job description that you are applying for. What are some of the key areas of responsibilities highlighted in the role and does that match your CV? Today, in recruitment we are quite fortunate to have technology on our side, with various digital tools that support us to review applications.
For example, recruiters have tools that allow us to pick up keywords in your CV.
These words are based on the job description, so if I give you an example, the majority of the roles that we are recruiting for our Fashion Consultants.
If you are a fashion retailer today, you will be aware that Clienteling and Guest Experience are the key responsibilities of the Fashion consultant.
Therefore… if this is a part of your experience and skill set, is it highlighted in your CV?

Next CV layout … Clear and convenient for the Recruiter and Hiring manager to read. Avoid overcomplicating the layout and the experience details. Creativity is welcomed, within reason.
Highlight Key points!
We receive thousands of applications, that we look through every day.
Avoid adding too many colors and ensure the font is professional and unreadable

….and don’t forget you want the recruiter to see your key achievements, your passions, your skills, and be honest! For extra bonus points, which areas would you like to develop yourself in… self-awareness is very important during the recruitment process.

Lastly CV and application profile pictures… I have this question often… “is a picture required?”.
No, it is NOT required. However, it can help you create a more personable CV.
I’ll ask you this, we work in a client facing industry, Fashion Retail! People come in to see us every day in our stores. Why?
Clients come to our stores for the EXPERIENCE! The first stage of building a relationship with the client is the initial engagement… we SMILE and we GREET!
You can create that same impression through your CV… a warm smile can create a lasting impression!

Best Wishes on your search…I hope this helps?!
